Fat-reducing injections: will one session keep the fat off for good?
Articles by Dr. Oh
One session of fat-reducing injections isn’t the end of it. There’s a limit to how many fat cells a single session can destroy, so the change you can get from one session is, at most, a more refined contour.
This is the question I’m asked most at consultations. To give you the answer first: one session isn’t enough. There’s a limit to how many fat cells a single injection session can destroy, so the change you can get from one session is, at most, a more refined contour.
Right after the first session, the change can feel dramatic, but much of that is swelling (fluid retention) going down. Fluid retention depends on circulation, so exercising the area, correcting your posture, stretching and massage can help the change last longer. Conversely, if the fluid builds up again, the area partly goes back to how it was.
That’s why I recommend LINE ON Injection, our injection treatment for small areas of fat, as a course of 3 sessions, 1 month apart. It reduces fat little by little over several sessions, and it suits people who find surgery daunting, or who are slim overall but bothered by one particular area.
It’s also why I recommend exercise and a healthy diet alongside treatment. Without them, even if the treatment works, the change soon wears off. This applies not only to fat-reducing injections but to every treatment, including Mini LINE ON Lipo (small-area liposuction) and liposuction. If a lack of exercise and overeating continue after treatment, the results fade.

Common questions about this treatment
Once I’ve had LINE ON Injection, can the fat come back?
The most common misconception is that a single session will stop you from gaining weight again. There’s a limit to how much fat one session can reduce, so at most it refines a contour.
Does LINE ON Injection contain steroids?
No. Steroids can produce an effect by shrinking tissue, but they can cause side effects throughout the body, including irregular periods and bleeding between periods, so I don’t use them.
If there’s no set dose limit, how much LINE ON Injection do you actually use?
I inject the amount that gives the greatest effect in each area. How much that is depends on your body weight, the thickness of the fat under your skin and the skin elasticity in that area.
Will the treatment still work if I don’t exercise or watch my diet?
It may still have an effect, but without exercise and a healthy diet, the change soon wears off.
