Face & Neck Renuvion

Works from under the skin to tighten loose skin under the chin and on the neck. It’s sometimes combined with facial liposuction.

If the line between your jaw and neck has blurred

The approach depends on whether the area under your chin looks saggy because of fat or because of loose skin.

Point 1. Fat and skin

We work out whether a double chin is from fat or from skin

The area under the chin can look saggy because fat has built up, because the skin and the tissue beneath it have loosened, or both. If there’s a lot of fat, we remove it with facial liposuction. If the skin has loosened, we use Renuvion to shrink the tissue beneath.

Point 2. Cleared use

Cleared for loose skin in the neck and under the chin

In July 2022, Renuvion received FDA 510(k) clearance in the US for improving the appearance of loose skin in the neck and under the chin. In the clinical study behind that clearance, 82.5% of 65 patients were judged to have improvement in loose skin at 6 months.

How it works

From consultation to follow-up

  1. 01Examination

We look at both the amount of fat and how loose the skin is.

  2. 02Plan

We decide whether to combine it with facial liposuction or do Renuvion alone.

  3. 03Treatment

We treat the area under the chin and the neck through a small entry point.

  4. 04Follow-up

We check your progress at 1, 2 and 3 months.

Medical note

Face & Neck Renuvion in detail

From here, we explain how the surgery works, recovery and what to watch for in more detail. It’s written to the standards Dr. Oh uses when he sees patients.

How we perform this surgery

01

Done together with facial liposuction

After removing fat under the chin, we go straight on to Renuvion through the same entry point.

See Facial Liposuction →

02

We work around the nerves in the neck

Nerves that move the facial muscles run through the neck and under the chin. We plan the range the handpiece moves within so it stays clear of them.

Who this surgery suits, and who it doesn’t

  • The skin under your chin or on your neck has loosened
  • You want your double chin fat removed but are also worried about sagging
  • You’d like to refine your neck and jawline without incisions

When we don’t recommend it

  • You have a lot of excess neck skin that folds (a lift with incisions may suit you better)
  • You’re pregnant or breastfeeding

Precautions

  • Rarely, the corners of the mouth may move less when you smile (the nerve to the muscles around the mouth is temporarily weakened). In the neck and under-the-chin study, this happened in 6.2% of patients, and all recovered on their own.
  • The area may feel firm or itchy for a while.
  • We’ll tell you how long to wear a compression band after your examination.

Results and recovery vary from person to person. Whether a treatment suits you is decided after Dr. Oh examines you in person.

Face & Neck Renuvion: frequently asked questions

Can’t I just have liposuction for my double chin?

If fat is the main cause and your skin is firm, liposuction alone is enough. If your skin is loose too, sagging may show more once the fat is removed, so we recommend combining it with Renuvion.

Will it smooth out neck wrinkles too?

Renuvion tightens loose skin by pulling from underneath. It doesn’t smooth out horizontal lines on the neck.
